This December, Self-Publishers of Chicago (SPoC) pays tribute to a different kind of folk hero: the Sales Associate. Join us at Uncharted Books on 12/22 for an evening of retail-Inspired horror stories, tall tales, and filthy slander– all reported directly from the trenches.
- Sandy Orozco
- Jeff Phillips
- Ed Blair
- Rachel Rodeck
- Liz Mason
In the spirit of commerce, we’ll also be selling copies of a collaborative zine Tribute to the Sales Associate: A Folk Hero for the 21st Century, featuring the written work that night’s performers (and others).
It’s not too late to be featured in our zine Tribute to the Sales Associate. Submit your story to SPoC by December 16th. We’ll take drawings, lists scrawled onto receipt paper, and images of other artifacts found along the way. The stranger the better.
Free jug wine at 7pm. Show starts at 7:30pm.
It’s been a pleasure serving you. Have a nice day!

Ring dem heteronormative bells cuz it’s June, the month where everyone’s blowing up your Facebook feed with pics of banquets, bouquets, brides and other such nonsense.
So, henceforth, you’re cordially invited to A Very SPOC Engagement, Sunday, June 14, 7:30 pm. at Uncharted Books (2620 N. Milwaukee.) Neither chicken nor fish will be served.
SPOC being SPOC, we married ourselves to the idea of a reading all about matrimony, in our characteristic tongue and cheek way of course. Readings fall into old/new/borrowed/blue categories.
Performers: Victoria Harley, Anna Jo Beck, Ian McDuffie, Nicki Yowell …..and more members of the bridal party TBA.
Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you want SPOC to make an honest reader out of you.
