Have anything that might fit? We’re looking for our multitalented SPOCsters to come up with some snappy, Chicago-centric, witty definitions as well as black and white illustrated artwork that can accompany the entries.

Score our COLLAGE zine @ Quimby’s

We did it guys! Our collage zine is printed, bound and in stores, specifically our favorite print purveyor Quimby’s. It’s a beautiful thing and the zine looks amazing. It features collages by scads of artists in full color.

A special thanks to all the artists, especially Daniel Majid who created the cover you’re looking it. And big ups to Peanut Gallery for hosting our workshops. Stay tuned for more amazing opportunities to collab and make awesome zines.

collageTake a look at some of the zine’s rad contents!

Help us put the COLLAGE zine together, plus EAT PIZZA!

Got some free time on Friday night? We know you may be checking out the Chicago Zine Fest Youth & Exhibitor Reading at 826 Chicago, but, if you can, think about dropping by to help us put our COLLAGE zine together.

Why not meet at the usual Thursday time, you say? Well, your SPOCsters are still hard at work doing the dirty work of scanning, placing images, lining up text and all that tedious yet strangely satisfying layout work.

We’ll be meeting at Nicki’s from 7-9 p.m. to get everything collated, stapled and ready to go for Chicago Zine Fest the next day. There will be delivered pizza and you’ll have plenty of time to make it over to Zine, Lose or Draw. Carpools anyone?

Speaking of Chicago Zine Fest, we’re looking for interested parties to hang out at our table at the event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. We’ll especially need folks to help selling our goods from around 4-5:30 p.m. while we’ll be participating in the Zine Scene workshop. E-mail selfpublishersofchicago@gmail to get on that.

Didn’t score a table this year? Bummer…..or not….because we’ll happily stock and sell your zine at SPOC table. All zines at the SPOC table will give 25% of their cover price back to zine-ful activities, so keep that in mind when pricing. Contact us and we’ll make arrangements.

TGISPOC: Weekend Events & More

It’s finally March and it’s finally the weekend. Here’s what SPOCsters will be up to:

Ninety-Seven to Three Release Party @ Uncharted Books, 7 p.m. Back to Print is, well back to print again. The book-loving group is back with another release party featuring readers and music by Tyler Bagwell and others.

CAKE LGBTQ Showcase @ Red Line Tap, 9:30 p.m. Chicago’s own alternative comics expo brings a host of performances and artwork.

Keep your calendar free for CHICAGO ZINE FEST on Saturday, March 9 from 11-6p.m at the Conaway Center at Columbia College. SPOC will be slinging its wares and participating in the Zine Scene workshop. Did you miss out on getting a table this year? No sweat. We’re happily hawking SPOCster’s zines at our table. Keep in mind when pricing that SPOC gets 25% of the cover price of all zines sold at our table to further our mission of zineitude. Contact selfpublishersofchicago@gmail for info or to volunteer for a tabling slot.

Sweet George Washington Carver! Just ONE WEEK Left to Submit to SPOC’s COLLAGE Zine!

Oh, how the time flies when you’re trapped inside avoiding the winter mix of ice, rain, snow and smatterings of deadly sunshine. There’s merely ONE WEEK, (actually slightly less) to submit to our COLLAGE ZINE. Sigh. But, hey, that’s plenty of time.

Send us your pieces (either half of an 8 1/12 by 11 or a whole sheet) by 11:45 p.m. this THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21. The subject is up to you: children eating balloons, small animals in combat gear, the subject of sadness in France, dancing fathers and daughters, anything.

Send your jpg or tif file to SELFPUBLISHERSOFCHICAGO@GMAIL.COM or bring us your piece to scan at our next meeting. Check out more deets on the book of faces.

Collage Social & Workshop TOMORROW @ Peanut Gallery, 7-9 p.m.

UH Collage_1

Get your catalogs, magazines, photos and various printed materials ready because tomorrow is our long-awaited COLLAGE WORKSHOP & SOCIAL. We’re putting together pages for our forthcoming collage zine. There will be paper, some scissors, glue, etc. but PLEASE feel free to bring additional supplies as our’s are limited. The action will be at PEANUT GALLERY, (1000 N. Milwaukee) in Humboldt Park from 7-9 p.m. so that’s early enough for your early birds to get some arrrrt done.

ALSO, don’t forget to bring AMPLE PRINTED MATTER for collaging fodder. The more weird stuff we have, the more awesome our collages will likely be. That is unless one of the small children I watch gets a hold of any of them. Ha, I kid, I kid.
If you have any interest in assembling/stapling/helping to photocopy our collage zine, we’ll be putting these goodies together after February 21 in anticipation of Chicago Zine Fest (where we’re tabling, woo woo.)
