Performances and art exhibition to bolster two of Chicago’s most productive comics incubators.

Jeremy Pettis.

Mid-West Zine Fest11 a.m – 5 p.m., Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, FREE

A host of tablers converge to sell zines and publications in down-state Illinois. Yes, there’s more Illinois than Chicago, apparently guys. This is our first time taking the SPOC show on the road so come on down if you have the desire for a weekend roadtrip.



Spaghetti Social to Benefit Landline w/ Words & Sound, 7 p.m. @ Roxenboxen, $7 a plate

Readers and sound artists/musicians combine to present their work together. Buy a pasta dinner to benefit the release of Landline’s fourth  issue Among the readers is SPOCster Nicki Yowell reading some kind of amazing, weird thing.

Sunday, April 14:

popupbookfair_aprPop-Up Book Fair, 1:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. @ Empty Bottle, FREE with RSVP $5 at Door

Curbside Splendor and Writer’s House host a Sunday afternoon congregation of 40 of Chicago’s independent and small press publishers. Live music by Mr. Mayor & the Highballers, Warm Bones and If Trees Could Write. 21 and over only.



CHICAGO CHILDREN’S TV SHOW!!! 3 & 5 p.m. @ Gallery Cabaret, FREE

 Pocket Guide to Hell’s newest production in a line of amazing Chicago-centric projects. Relive the glory days of the golden years of Chicago’s children’s television. Music, acrobatics, cartoons and much more! 3 p.m. show for kids and 5 pm. show for adults.
